Privacy – Useful extensions for your non-IE browser

For surfing in the internet, i use the browser i suggested in this article.
My favourit is the Whitehat Aviator, because Commodo Dragon hung up a lot and Mozilla Firefox is a little bit hard to use, because of the script blocker. But i will test other browsers.

I like chromium based browser, they are easy and nice to use. To make my behaviour of surfing more obscure for companies like amazon, google and so on, i use these extensions.

ZenMate (for chromium-based browser)

ZenMate is an addon, which allows you to connect to other country and start your websession from there. You can choose between:

  • Zurich, Switzerland (my most preferred)
  • Frankfurt am Main, Germany
  • London, United Kingdom
  • New York, United States
  • Kowloon, Hong Kong

It opens a VPN tunnel to the server in this country and use this server as proxy server for your websession. This addon is an „always-on“ in my browsers.
In Germany we have a company called „GEMA“ (Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte / Performing Right Society), which blocks videos on youtube, when they believe, the rights of the creator could be harmed. With that addon, coming from another country, you have to trouble with watching the video!

You can look for that addon in the extensions of your browser or download it here and drag and drop it into the extension list.
You have to create an account for using it.

Adblock Plus (for chromium-based browser)

This addon defends you against known ads and, if you want to, websites with malware and not „socially accepted“ sites (porn, glorifying violence, and so on). For further information, take a look here.
The addon is downloadable in the list of the extensions of your browser or here.

HTTPS-Everywhere (for Mozilla Firefox)

This addon tries to connect every website via SSL… you mostly know it as https. If the website offers this protocol, the addon creates a https-connection to secure the session between client and server. Very nice feature for the Firefox and downloadable here.

NoScript (for Mozilla Firefox)

This addon does not allow script from websites by default. It asks you in the bottom of the windows, if the scripts are full allowed, temporary allowed, should be blocked, and so on, Very strict and hard and most of the time you have to guess, what to do because it is not really clear, what to do to use the website without having trouble with it.
Nice feature but you need knowledge about the functionality of websites and scripts to use it safety.
You can download it here.

More useful extensions will follow…
